Because of the the empires were so heavily dependent on trade, various circumstances that diminished the empires' trading capacities, including the death of a leader or the strengthening of a rival empire, eventually led to their decline.</span>

An American politician calling for more government intervention can fall under a myriad of political ideologies: from social liberalism, to social democracy, to even democratic socialism. Thus, it is not accurate to label someone like that as "communist".
