When it says 7 more than a number equals 21, the "more than" is addition, a number is x (because it's the unknown number). So this one is x+7=21.

When it says 39 less than a number is 21. "Less than" means to subtract. The 39 is less than x, so it's x-39=21.

8 times a certain number increased by 1 is 65. Break it down, first 8 times a number, so it's 8*x or 8x. Then we add 1 to that, so it's 8x+1=65.

5 times some number decreased by 2 times the number is 42. Decreased by is subtraction. So it's 5x-2x=42.

When you look for the key words increased by (add), more than (add), multiplied by, times, less than (subtract), decreased by (subtract), is (equal sign), they will help determine what you need to do.

I hope this gives you a little more understanding. Good luck with it! :)

A circle has a radius of 6 ft.
den301095 [7]
I'm assuming that 5π3 is in fact 5π/3

convert radian to degrees:

5π / 3 = 5(180°) / 3 = 900° / 3 = 300°

Area of the circle = π r²
A = 3.14 * (6 ft)²
A = 3.14 * 36 ft²
A = 113.04 ft²

Area of the sector:

113.04 ft² * 300°/360° = 94.2 ft²

The area of the sector formed by a central angle measuring 5π/3 radian is 94.2 ft²

What is the circumference of quadrilateral ABED in cm?
Natasha2012 [34]

the perimeter of quadrilateral ABED is 36.

What is circumference?

A circumference is the total distance around a plane shape. Another name for circumference is called perimeter

To calculate the circumference of the quadrilateral, we use the formula below.

Formula:

 • Peri. of ABED = /AB/+/BE/+/ED/+/DA/............. Equation 1

From the Diagram,

Given:

 • /AB/ = /DC/ = 8 cm,
 • /BE/ = 2×/DA/ = 2×6 = 12 cm
 • /ED/ = √(6²+8²) = √(36+64) = √100 = 10 cm
 • /DA/ = 6 cm

Substitute these values into equation 1

 • Peri. of quadrilateral ABED = 8+12+10+6
 • Peri. of quadrilateral ABED = 36 cm

Hence, the perimeter of quadrilateral ABED is 36.
