What do you do when a patron seems to be having a diabetic emergency

Under most normal circumstances a diabetic emergency will most likely be hypoglycemia, a low blood sugar. The first step always is to call 911, and if CPR is known prepare for possible arrest and support if patient becomes unresponsive.

There are two ways that people are ablebto correct such a diabetic emergency, or at least prevent until EMS arrives. Some Diabetic may have a container containing a Glucagon shot which should have instructions on its use. NEVER!! Inject insulin (it will say what is Glucagon and what is insulin). Another thindoyou can do is to offer a simple sugar like juice to the patient.

lana [24]
Well, you have two options, either throw up now and not worry about it later (this relieves pain too), otherwise, just drink something and have something to eat.  Don't try anything too sugary like one of those Starbucks unicorn drinks (I don't know if they still exist but hey, just a warning!).  Try a soda or just plain water.  For something to eat, try a corndog or something that you like.  Most people like pizza, so try a nice greasy pizza!

  • RDAs can change based on age, sex, and activity level so not C
  • RDAs are set by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine so not D
