At 1275, the first mechanical clock was invented in England. One of the oldest running clocks is found in Salisbury church, finished at 1386. The clock does not take any face and tells the moment by striking these times. In the first 1300s, three machine clocks were made in Italy. One was the astronomical clock, the second ringing the bell every time and the third was the hours, morning and times of this month. As the years progressed, blacksmiths proceeded to make clocks with deafening chimes to be seen throughout manor homes and towns. The sixteenth century worked together to use brass, bronze, and silver rather than the metal previously applied. At this 1540s the Swiss watch business was birthed because reformer John Calvin banned people from wearing jewelry. The forced jewelers to take another skill, watchmaking. At 1574, the first known pocket watch is made at bronze with spiritual portrayals on both the front and rear.:
