The type of feature of the earth’s crust shown in the diagram is anticline. This implies the correct answer is D.

The three major types of rock folding are

 • Anticline
 • Monocline
 • Synclines

Further Explanation

Anticline: this type of fold has an arc-like shape and its oldest beds are present at its core. Normally, an anticline has a convex curve whereby the hinge is the point where the curvature appears to be the greatest and the limbs represent the sides of the folds that dip out of the hinge.

Monocline: this is a type of fold that is made up of two horizontal limbs. The limbs are also connected by shorter inclined limbs. Monocline is also similar to anticline.

Syncline: this is a type of fold with younger layers. The younger layers are very close to the center of the structure. Synclines are downward folds but synclines that face upward direction are found when the strata have been folded or overturned. These kinds of synclines are also called antiformal synclines.

Synclines have different characteristics which include

 • They are seen as a sequence of rock layers on a geologic map
 • Also, if the fold pattern of synclines is circular, they have a basin-like structure.
