Why do most economists believe that it is important for a country's central bank to be independent of the rest of the country'
AlekseyPX
This way, the bank is less likely to be interfered with by the central government. It can, at the very least, give an appearance of being impartial with its monetary policy and its decisions to print money. If the bank is not independent, the view can proliferate that there are decisions that are being made that would be in the favor of the government or the parties in power at the time.

The correct answer is D. You could sue for defamation if the allegations were true, but your reputation suffered.

Explanation

Defamation is the name by which the action of spreading an accusation towards another person is known that can cause damage to the honor, dignity or reputation of the accused who is accused. Therefore, if Senator Jones has evidence, he could sue for defamation of the media. However, the fragment also refers to Anne Tracy having witnesses to support her accusation, so it would be unlikely that Senator Jones had evidence to declare him innocent. On the other hand, if he were innocent, his reputation in society had already been affected. So the correct answer is D. He could sue for defamation if the accusations were true but his reputation was damaged.

Why did hundreds of people send canes to Preston Brooks?
nekit [7.7K]
Preston Brooks was a Southern Congressman and a passionate advocate of Southern Rights. Charles Sumner was an ardent abolitionist who delivered an impassioned speech against the authors of the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1856. He also ridiculed the speech impediment of one of the authors, Andrew Butler. Preston Brooks got angry because he was the nephew of Andrew Butler. Together with a friend, Brooks approached Sumner as the latter worked at his desk and started caning Sumner. Sumner collapsed in the aisle and Preston Brooks continued caning him until his cane broke. Southerners sent canes to Preston Brooks to replace the one he broke.
