<span>The composition of the poem also can be only assumed in the light of various facts present. One certain fact is that the composition took place after the death of Hygelac which was in 521 AD. If we look at the assumed date of the death of Beowulf it tells us that most likely the composition date is after 580 AD as that is the assumed death date of Beowulf. The manuscript was written before 1000 AD so in between these periods was Beowulf composed.</span>

When we look at the cultural values and various contexts of the epic it tells us that Beowulf took place in the time of the Old English period or which is popularly known as Anglo-Saxon period.
