<span>President Jimmy Carter withdrew the SALT II agreement from consideration by Congress. The treaty, which had been signed in June 1979, was designed to establish parity in nuclear delivery vehicles between the United States and the Soviet Union. Carter also halted grain shipments to the Soviet Union and ordered a U.S. boycott of the 1980 Olympics that were to be held in Moscow.</span>
The Legislative branch makes the laws. The laws are written, discussed and voted on in Congress. There are 100 senators in the Senate, two from each state.
Also in South Asia, Pakistan joined
a trade alliance with the US and
others in 1954 designed to contain
the spread of communism.
Meanwhile, India became a key
player at the 1955 Bandung
Conference in Indonesia, which
encouraged new nations to avoid
taking sides with the US or the
USSR. The Cold War heated up
along the India-Pakistan border
over disputed territory in Kashmir
in 1965. When the United Nations
called for a diplomatic solution,
the US halted arms supplies to the
region. This worked in India's favor
as it already had a stronger
military. It was able to maintain
control over Kashmir after a
ceasefire, though the region
remains in dispute to this day.
It would be that "d. Muhammad was engaged in long-distance trade where he came into contact with monotheists" that likely would have influenced his acceptance of monotheism, since this allowed for him to gain new and challenging points of view.
