Hospitals were invented in the early 18th Century.

There are several downsides to hospitals when compared to care at home. The cost of care in a hospital is more than care at home, especially in the United States. Care at home is more personal and centered around you while care at hospital can feel a lot less personal as there are so many patients being treated. Hospitals are breeding grounds for germs, bacteria and infections and many people contract additional illnesses while staying in hospital. Hospitals are not comfortable reassuring places, you are surrounded by other people who are unwell, it is noisy, there are staff members in and out and students, the food isn't great, you are restricted in where you can go and what you can do, whereas at home it is your own home with your own comforts.
