Fetal alcohol syndrome is a serious condition that arises due to the mother drinking alcohol during pregnancy. These conditions can harm each person in different ways and can range from mild to severe, with long-term implications that can include physical, mental, behavioral or learning problems. As for the abnormal facial characteristics, they present, for example, a less marked groove between the nose and the upper lip (this fold is called the filter or subnasal groove).
