If the student got a true statement, it is an identity
example, ending with x=x or 10=10 means it is an identity

if the student ended up with a false statement, there is no solution
example, 10=2

Answer:

In elimination method we eliminate one variable by multiplying constant and adding/subtracting with the other equation.

But sometimes it happen that the result after applying elimination method eliminate both the variables and we get either true statement (like 0 = 0) or a false statement (like 0 = 6). If we get false statement then the given set of equations has no solution.

Let’s look at an example.

Solve for x and y.

-x – y = -4

and, x + y = 2

After subtracting equation first equation from second one. We get,

0 = −2

Hence, There is no solution.

Can someone help me figure out the answer?
Ahat [919]

Answer:

You will break even on the car wash when you buy 13.5 gallons. As long as you buy that or more, it is cheaper to get the car wash.

Step-by-step explanation:

In order to find this, we need to create equations for both situations. If we let x equal the amount of gallons purchased, we can model the first equation as:

f(x) = 3.35x

And the second equation as:

f(x) = 3.05x + 4.05

Then to find when they equal each other, we can set the two equations equal to each other and solve for x.

3.35x = 3.05x + 4.05

0.30x = 4.05

x = 13.5

This means once you buy 13.5 gallons, the prices will be the same. Any amount over that and the car wash will be cheaper

Let f(x)=x^3-3x^2+3.
rusak2 [61]

Answer:

a) Domain: all real values of x

Range: all real values of y

b) Relative maxima: (0,3)

Relative minima: (2,-1)

c) yes, (1,1)

d) x < 0, x > 2

Step-by-step explanation:

a) Domain: all real values of x

Range: all real values of y

b) dy/dx = 3x² - 6x = 0

3x(x - 2) = 0

x = 0, y = 0³ - 3(0)² + 3 = 3

x = 2, y = 2³ - 3(2)² + 3 = -1

d²y/dx² = 6x - 6

x = 0, d²y/dx² = -6 < 0 (max)

x = 2, d²y/dx² = 6 > 0 (min)

c) d²y/dx² = 0 at points of infection

6x - 6 = 0

x = 1

y = 1³ - 3(1)² + 3 = 1

dy/dx at x = 0.9: 3(0.9)² - 6-(0.9)

= -0.298

dy/dx at x = 1.1: 3(1.1²) - 6(1.1)

= -0.297

Decreasing on both sides, therefore (1,1) is a point of inflection

d) increasing when dy/dx > 0

3x² - 6x > 0

Roots: x = 0, 2

x < 0, x > 2
