The function is f(x)= \frac{1}{ \sqrt{ x^{2} -1}}

write f again as f(x)= (x^{2} -1)^{- \frac{1}{2} }

(the power -1 takes the expression to the denominator, and the power 1/2 is square root)

writing rational expressions as power expressions, generally makes differentiation more practical.

In f(x)= (x^{2} -1)^{- \frac{1}{2} } we notice 2 functions:

the outer function u^{ -\frac{1}{2} }, where u=x^{2} -1, and the inner, u itself , which is a function of x.

So we differentiate by using the chain rule:

f'(x)= -\frac{1}{2}u^{- \frac{1}{2}-1 }*u'=  -\frac{1}{2}u^{- \frac{3}{2} }*(2x)=- \frac{x}{ \sqrt{ u^{3} } } =- \frac{x}{ \sqrt{ (x^{2} -1)^{3} } }

Answer: - \frac{x}{ \sqrt{ (x^{2} -1)^{3} } }

When a ballplayer throws a ball straight up, by how much does the speed of the ball decrease each second while ascending? In the
sattari [20]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

We are in the case of vertical shot. If we neglect air resistance, the only force acting over the ball is gravity. As gravity acts down to earth and the ball is going up, speed´s ball  will be decreasing by gravity ( 9.8 m/sec²) That means the speed of the ball will be decreasing 9.8 m/sec, each second.

When the ball get the maximum height  Vy = 0 then the ball stars descending, and when the ball is descending again gravity is the only force acting gravity acts in the same direction as the ball´s movement, so the ball´s speed will increase at a rate of 9.8 m/sec  each second.

It is a well known fact that the time of the ball to get maximum height is the same as for the ball to fall down to earth. In other words time from the beginning of the movement up to maximum height is equal to time for the ball to fall down.

Explain why a graph that fails the vertical-line test does not represent a function. Be sure to use the definition of a function
ArbitrLikvidat [17]

Explanation:

A function is a relationship where any one x-value/input only has <u>one </u>corresponding y-value/output. (note: a y-value can have multiple x-values).

> This can be called "assigning one y-value to every x element".

The vertical line test places a line that would connect all y-values of an x-value (that is, if it were to have multiple y-values). If multiple points can be found along the vertical line, it is, therefore, by the definition of a function, not a function. (Because an x-value will have more than one y-value).

So, a graph that fails the vertical-line test does not represent a function because an x-value will correspond with more than one y-value.

hope this helps!!

ms green tell you that a right triangle has a hypotenuse of 13 and a leg of 5 . She asks you to find the other leg of the triang
Montano1993 [528]

Answer:

\large \boxed{12}

Step-by-step explanation:

We can apply Pythagoras' Theorem.

\begin{array}{rcc}a^{2} & = & b^{2} + c^{2}\\13^{2}& = & 5^{2} + c^{2}\\169& = & 25 + c^{2}\\c^{2}& = & 144\\c & = & \sqrt{144}\\& = & \mathbf{12}\\\end{array}\\\text{The other leg of the triangle is $\large \boxed{\mathbf{12}}$}
