The family is a living system where components react and influence each other reciprocally. There are emotional and psychological bonds involved in a family relationship, and at the same time spaces of privacy, autonomy and individuality that must be respected. Family relationships are delicate and deserve the dedication of all involved. It is impossible to develop a good family relationship when members are authoritarian, violent, do not trust each other and are not understanding.
Well, "impede" meaning slowing down, or stopping something from happening faster. So, if you factor that into the question I would say that discipline would be a good answer. If you don't discipline them, then they will get out of hand and disrespect you even more causing a relationship to fall within the family, and causing complications. If you discipline them then they know their boundaries and will follow rules more which helps the family grow.
