Explain why passive rather than active verb forms are used in certain types of text

ANSWER: Passive verb forms are used to shift the focus off the agent and onto the subject.

There are two nouns in a basic sentence; a subject and an agent. The agent acts on the subject. Here, the subject is bolded and the agent is italicized.
I ate <em>cereal.

^ </em>That is an active sentence, because it focuses on the 'I'. Below are examples of passive sentences.
<em>
</em><em>Cereal </em>was eaten by me.
<em></em><em>Cereal </em>was eaten.

^As you can see, sometimes passive sentences don't even contain a subject. This is particularly useful when you want to divert attention from the agent, such as when your sibling asks where the last bit of cereal went (Doesn't <em></em>'The cereal was eaten' sound less guilty than 'I ate the cereal'?)

Hope this helped!

tiny-mole [99]

Answer:

The question that best reflects the biggest concern that Tucker must address for Group D is "What are some of the scientific benefits of animal testing?"

Explanation:

Each one of the questions represents one of the groups and the point of view from where they can see the speech from, Group A worries about the monetary affectations, Group B worries about the benefit for labs with the budget, Group C worries about the animal rights, and since Group D does not have a clear posture towards the subject they can not have a specialized worry, which makes the question about the general benefits of testing the suitable question for them.

Answer:

Differences between Movies and Books

Movies and books, as stated previously, are two mediums of entertainment. Some people prefer one over the other, but they have equal merits. Books are windows to any world, and those worlds are only limited by one’s imagination. Books are known to also improve ones vocabulary. Movies, on the other hand, is something that can easily let us feel what feeling the director wants to convey because of the mix of visual and aural clues. They can make us cry or laugh because we clearly see and hear and feel what is being portrayed. Books and movies have also been tools for education and propaganda, but mostly they are for entertainment.

Movies and books are ways into worlds unknown; it’s just up to you which ever you will take.
