Soil is a complex mixture of minerals, water, air, organic matter, and countless organisms that are the decaying remains of once

-living things.
Soil covers the ground and is an important ingredient for plant growth. However, soil must be formed. The picture shows the soil formation process.

Which statement best describes the process of soil formation?

A) Rain gets into cracks in rocks. When the rain freezes, ice forms. Rocks begin to erode and decay. These processes provide organic and mineral matter for soil.
B) Rain gets into cracks in rocks. When the rain freezes, it fills the cracks with ice. The water dissolves the minerals in the rock, releasing them into the soil.
C) Rain gets into cracks in rocks. When the rain freezes, the cracks expand. The ice preserves dead organic materials. These processes release minerals into the soil.
D) Rain gets into cracks in rocks. When the rain freezes, the cracks expand. The rock begins to break down by the process of weathering, releasing minerals into the soil. Small plants and microorganisms also loosen the rock and when decayed, provide organic material.

Agrobacteriuminfects plants and causes them to form tumors. You are asked to determine how long a plant must be exposed to these
Oksi-84 [34.3K]

Answer:

Measure the number of tumors formed on plants, which are exposed to Agrobacterium for different lengths of time.

Explanation:

A scientific experiment comprises of an independent variable and a dependent variable. In the following example, the no.of tumours will be the dependent variable and the different lengths of time for which the plant will be exposed to the agrobacterium will be the independent variable.

The independent variable is the one which is changed so that its effect on the dependent variable can be studied.

The price of a book is thrice that of an exercise book. of a student spend #9600 on book and #8000 on exercise book, he has 56 i
poizon [28]

Answer:

a) price of an exercise book = #200

b) #400

Explanation:

Let x represent the price of the book

Let y represent the price of the exercise book

- According to this question, the price of the book is thrice that of an exercise book i.e. x = 3y

- Also, the question states that if a student spend #9600 on book and #8000 on exercise book, he has 56 items altogether. This means that to get how many books and exercise books he bought, we divide the price of book and exercise book he bought by the price of each book (x) and exercise book (y) respectively. Mathematically, this means:

- Student bought 9600/x books

- Student bought 8000/y exercise books

So, 9600/x books + 8000/y exercise books = 56 item

9600/x + 8000/y = 56

Since x = 3y

We can say;

9600/3y + 8000/y = 56

Find the L.C.M of 3y and y = 3y and solve using fraction method (see attachment).

9600 + 24000/3y = 56

33600/3y = 56

Cross multiply

33600 = 56 × 3y

33600 = 168y

Divide both sides by 168

33600/168 = 168y/168

200 = y

y = 200

Since, x = 3y

x = 3 × 200

x = 600

Therefore, the price of book (x) and exercise book (y) are #600 and #200 respectively.

b) The difference between the price of a book and an exercise book i.e. x - y

= #600 - #200

= #400

Pick one galaxy and describe it in detail. Choose either a spiral, elliptical, or irregular galaxy. Make sure that your
kobusy [5.1K]

A spiral galaxy is a galaxy where the stars and gas clouds are concentrated mainly in one or more spiral arms. Most spiral galaxies consist of a flat, rotating disk containing stars, gas and dust, and a concentration of stars known as "the bulge". The disk of stars orbiting the bulge separates into arms that circle the galaxy. These spiral arms contain gas and dust and younger stars that shine brightly before they dull. Most of the galaxies that scientists have discovered so far are spiral galaxies. One example of a galaxy in our solar system is The Milky Way. Spiral galaxies make up roughly 72 percent of the galaxies that scientists have observed. How the spiral arms form continues to puzzle scientists. One theory suggests the galaxy arms could be the result of density waves traveling through the outer disk. Galaxies at a whole are quite a fascination.
