What has to happen before mitosis begins?

Biology

Mitosis is simply a stage in a cells life cycle, which could be broken down further into stages of mitosis. The rest (so not mitosis) is know as Interphase and is where the cell does its normal function, so if it's the cell is in a region of muscle it would contract/relax as normal etc.

Immediately before mitosis (or M phase) is what's know as G2 phase, where the G stands for growth and is where particular gene pathways are expressed to promote growth of the volume of DNA (chromosomes are duplicated, so from 46 to 92). At the end of this stage is a checking process where the DNA is scrutinised for any errors, if all is okay then the cell can proceed to mitosis, if not then the process is stopped so that errors in copying the DNA can be fixed. This is know as a restriction point and the cell must meet the requirements to pass. This is often seen as a way cells can prevent damage being replicated and therefore interfering with normal cell processes. When cells are cancerous they are able to override this and therefore divide and spread the damaged DNA.

Epsom salts are solutes that do not pass through cell membranes. If one soaks in a hypertonic solation of Epsom salts, which of
IceJOKER [234]

Answer:

B

Explanation:

The net movements of water from the region of higher water potential  to the region of low water potential through  a selectively permeable membrane is osmosis. It is a form of diffusion which involves the transport of water molecules.

In this present scenario  water molecules  pass through the selectively permeable membrane from higher water potential in the body, to lower water potential but high solute potential (Epsom salts). The later is called an hypertonic solution, this is because it has higher solute potential ,thus higher salt concentration than the surrounding medium, therefore water pass by osmosis into the Epsom salts.

If one is placed in this solution, the cells shrink as they lose water to the more concentrated Epsom.(hypertonic solution)

However, the body homeostatic mechanism through the kidney  ensure re-absorption of fluid back to the body from the DCT  and CT, via  anti diuretic hormone to preserve the cell and the person.

Since mature red blood cells do not contain a nucleus, more room is available for
geniusboy [140]

Answer:

The correct answer is : oxygen

Explanation:

  • Oxygen is carried in the blood by two means:
  1. About 2% of the oxygen is carried in the dissolved form in blood plasma and in the water present in the red blood cells (RBCs).
  2. Rest 98% of the oxygen is carried in bound form with the haemoglobin as oxy-haemoglobin inside the RBCs.
  • RBCs lack nucleus. This place is occupied by hemoglobin molecules that  binds to oxygen and form oxy-hemoglobin.
  • This increases the capacity of each RBC so that it can carry more oxygen to all the parts in the body.

Stella [2.4K]

Answer: the carrying capacity for adult giraffes in this area is: 6.

Explanation: [ 450 pounds divided by 75 = 6. ]

Fun Fact - Giraffes can drink up to 10 gallons of water a day and spend 16-20 hours a day feeding, their favorite food is Acacia Leaves.
