Hey!!!

according to the question, one of the piece if 36 inch stick is 8 inches longer than the other.

let the shorter piece be x.

therefore the longer piece is x + 8

=> x + x + 8 = 36 inch

=> 2x + 8 = 36 inch

=> 2x = 36 - 8

=> 2x = 28

=> x = 28/2

=> x = 14

hence, length of the shorter piece = x = 14 inch

and length of the longer piece = x + 8 = 14 + 8 = 22 inch

cheers!!!
