The word "cycle" in cell cycle refers to the regular pattern of growth, DNA duplication, and cell division that occurs in eukaryotic cells.
The cell cycle is the term that describes the development and growth of a cell, after its formation and until its reproduction (division into two daughter cells). In eukaryotic cells (cells that include a nucleus) the cell cycle is comprised of two major phases, the interphase and the mitosis. During interphase, the cell grows larger and duplicates its genetic material. During mitosis, the cell divides its genetic material and cytoplasm, creating two daughter cells.
Statement should read: "Glycolysis occurs both in the absence and presence of oxygen".
Why?
Because glycolysis is just the process that converts glucose to energy in a cell.
The main difference between aerobic and anaerobic glycolysis is the presence or absence of oxygen. The other difference is in the by-products of the process.
Aerobic glycolysis has CO2 and H2O as the by-products, while anaerobic glycolysis differs based on the organism: ethanol in plants and many bacteria, lactic acid in animals and other bacteria. Humans do both aerobic and anaerobic glycolysis during exercise. Aerobic glycolysis makes pyruvate while anaerobic glycolysis makes lactate (lactic acid) - which is why your muscles hurt!
Another huge difference is that aerobic glycolysis makes a lot more ATP (energy) than anaerobic glycolysis does.
They are similar a bit like this ----
It is true that the testicles are similar in shape to ovaries, but that is where those similarities end. Males do NOT start as females. All humans start out the same, asexual. When hormones are introduced during development, the s-xual organs form. If a female has too high of testosterone during development, they will be come a hermaphrodite and have what looks like both organs and same goes if males and they actually begin life as the same organ structurally anyway. That's why it's so difficult to tell the sex of a very young fetus they all have a phallus which becomes a pen-s in males and a cli-oris in females. The gonads are all internal at that time. They become ovaries in females and descend and become testicles in males.
