Some researchers have proposed that the human population was reduced to fewer than 10,000 individuals as a result of a catastrop

hic event that occurred about 50,000 years ago, and that all modern humans are descendants of this small population. If this proposal is true, it would be an example of __________.

Answer:

The correct answer is bottleneck effect.

Explanation:

The phenomenon of bottleneck effect takes place when some natural events like a tsunami or an earthquake result in the destruction of the majority of the population and leave behind some to survive. Due to the bottleneck affect the genetic diversity within the population gets reduced drastically as the majority of the population gets perished, this results in the eradication of some of the genes from the population, while the left genes are passed onto the next progenies.

The bottleneck effect results in the generation of the new population as the leftover individuals further inbreed and give rise to a new population comprising the leftover genes. It is not necessary that the left genes passing on to the next generation are better than the one, which got eliminated, as the left genes have got selected by chance. Thus, it can be concluded that the given case is an illustration of the bottleneck effect.

Igoryamba

Giraffes and Elephants: Giraffes have adapted a long neck over time letting them eat and access food allowing them to survive. If a dry season was unusually long they would succeed fine because they are able to eat and drink from the trees. Elephants have survived with similar tactics of eating higher up, they have rough skin allowing them to outlast the heat, and only need water after long periods of time.

Answer:

B There will be blue colonies only

Explanation:

This screen in called the blue white screening. This is a rapid test that allows scientist to check for their insert of choice in the colonies at a glance. The concept is that where the insert is located the lac Z gene in the vector is interrupted and therefor Xgal, a reporter can be produced. Where there are blue colonies being formed the plasmid has self-ligated and the lac Z gene is not interrupted and the X-gal can be formed rendering a blue color.

Part A:

If early conditions of primeval earth had ammonia, methane, hydrogen in its atmosphere, then it is possible that amino acids such as glycine, α-alanine, and β-alanine may have been spontaneously formed from chemical reactions spurred by energy from lightning.

Their hypothesis was that the early conditions of primeval earth favored the spontaneous formation of organic molecules, from inorganic precursors, that may have been the origin of life. This theory is called abiogenesis.

Part B:

Miller Urey put methane, ammonia, hydrogen gases in a glass flask and a pool of water at the bottom of the glass flask. The flask was heated moderately to simulate the hot conditions then. Sparks were also occasionally induced in the flask to mimic lighting. The flask was then cooled slowly to simulate cooling of earth over time. After one day, they found the presence of some amino acids (glycine, α-alanine and β-alanine) was discovered in the water in the flask
