Hey there! The French and Indian war provoked the British, and caused them to spend lots and lots of money. In order to make that money back and to pay off their debts, they exercised their right to tax the colonists. They didn't respond well. They resisted and boycotted products and refused to buy British imported items. When the British imposed the Stamp Act and taxed the colonists' tea, they decided that it was the last straw, and that lead to the famous Boston Tea Party. This all added up and led to the first Continental Congress, and then the Declaration of Independence, where the colonists listed their complaints and declared their independence as a free country.
