14+\frac{7}{9}x=x

14=x-\frac{7}{9}x

14=\frac{9x-7x}{9}

14=\frac{2x}{9}

2x=126

x=63

Thus, total number of mysteries solved=63.

Also, total number of mysteries Evan solved=\frac{7}{9}x= \frac{7}{9}{\times}63=49.
