A clue is a word, phrase, or symbol that can help one to determine the meaning of something that is unknown or missing in a context. It is a hint or pointer. During investigations, especially of a missing person, the police rely on clues provided by the surrounding events and the words used by others around to figure out the solution so that they can reconstruct the sequence of events and so decipher the whereabout of the missing person, the meaning of the action, or the words and symbols used.
