<u>Explanation:</u>

<em>Germ theory states that germs are the causative organisms of various diseases.</em> Germs include several microbes like bacteria, fungi, virus, protozoa etc. These microbes invade the host body and multiply inside the host body.  

Prior to germ theory there were several other theories like the miasma theory but the discovery of microbes proved them to be  false. <em>Germ theory brought several changes in sanitation practices and thus has several applications. </em>

John snow an English physician who studied cholera suggested that the <em>transmission was through water contaminated by the faecal matter of infected people. </em>

This discovery gave the idea that sanitation practices have to be improved. The disinfection of surgical instruments is also an improvement that was made in <em>sanitary practices after the formation and acceptance of germ theory.  </em>
