This theory substantiate the fact that the a large landmass got splitted and drifted into continents which were drifted to different locations from the site they were originated. It explains the fact that plates (continents) above the earth surface gets split into different subplates (small continents) because of natural effects like volcanoes, mountain formation, earthquakes.
