Hello!

You can only add and subtract values that have the same variable

This means you can only subtract x's from other x's and same with y

4x - x = 3x

13y + y = 14y

The answer is 3x + 14y

Hope this helps!

ECTIONS: Write an expression that represents the situation.
KatRina [158]

an expression that determine the total cost of gym membership for any number of months is 10+19.99(x)

Given that:

cost per month = $19.99

Starting fee = $10

Months = x

So the expression for 1 person will be:

10+ 19.99(x)

thus an expression that determine the total cost of gym membership for any number of months is 10+19.99(x)

Then simplify both sides
a = - 3/2 x 12
Simplify
-3/2 x -12
a = -3 x -6

Write the quadratic equation in general form and then choose the value of "b."
Ira Lisetskai [31]
First of all to transfer (2x - 1)(x + 6) = 0 into a form where we can plug it into the quadratic formula we need to use the FOIL method.

(2x - 1)(x + 6) = 0
becomes
2x*x+2x*6+-1*x+-1*6
which simplifies to
2x^2 + 12x - x - 6
and then we add like terms to get
2x^2 + 11x - 6

now that it is in the correct form we can identify "a" "b" and "c" by following this form
ax^2 + bx + c
looking back at the equation we got earlier
2x^2 + 11x - 6

a=2,b=11,and c=-6
