The most severely affected group will be that of the small children. The children are more prone to the toxic chemical hazard of the neighborhood. The small children are unaware of the harmful effects of the toxins and are always inquisitive about new things. This makes them susceptible to the damage from the toxic chemicals as there are chances that they may swallow or touch these chemicals.

Which mechanism best describes the process by which nutrients are taken up at the apical surface of the epithelial cells that li
Ludmilka [50]

Answer:

The correct answer is option d. "Protein movement is limited by the presence of a diffusion barrier".

Explanation:

There are transportation mechanisms that allow to take up nutrients to the apical surface of the epithelial cells. The transportation process is best describes as protein movement limited by the presence of a diffusion barrier. There are structures known as tight junctions, located just below the apical surface . These tight junctions acts as diffusion barriers, separating the  extracellular fluids surrounding the apical and basolateral membranes.

The rate of firing of the postsynaptic neuron depends on the amount of ______ input it receives from the presynaptic neuron.
AysviL [449]

The postsynaptic potential is the membrane potential, which takes place in the neuron present post synapsis (after the chemical synapse). The presynaptic neuron releases neurotransmitter, which causes the firing in the postsynaptic neurons.

The firing of the post synaptic neuron depends on the excitation and inhibition inputs received from the presynaptic neuron. The firing is the resultant of the summation of excitatory and inhibitory potential. In case, the excitatory potential is greater than inhibitory potential, the post synaptic neuron would be excited. in case, inhibitory potential is greater than excitatory potential, then the post synaptic neuron would be inhibited.

Hence, the correct answer is option d.
