A) Leave as is

These two sentences are both complete thoughts and independent clauses. In order to combine them, there would need to be a semi-colon like in option B, but in option B the capitalization is incorrect (The would not be capitalized). To use a comma there would need to be a conjunction word.

Who was the Welsh cleric who lived from ca. 1100 to 1155 and wrote "The Prophecies of Merlin", the poetic "Life of Merlin", and
iris [78.8K]

Answer:

His name was Geoffrey of Monmouth.

Explanation:

Geoffrey of Monmouth was a cleric born between 1095 and 1100 who is famous to this day for his influence over the Arthurian myths. Much of his life cannot be accounted for since information is scarce. We do not know precisely where he was born; some sources say he was Welsh, others say he was British. The exact year when he was born is also controversial.

Geoffrey was the author of the "History of the Kings of Britain", or Historia Regum Britanniae, which was translated into several languages. Nowadays, this work is considered unreliable. But Geoffrey's earliest work was probably the Prophecies of Merlin which, as its name reveals, contains a number of prophecies attributed to the wizard Merlin. Some say the character Merlin was created by Geoffrey himself, but Geoffrey claimed to have based him in older Brittonic traditions.

1) C) weak and gaunt

Buck is described as have muscles which "had wasted away" and it goes on to say that "each rib and every bone...were outlined cleanly through the loose hide..." This description shows that he is weak and gaunt.

2) hearing

Sensory details appeal to the senses. In this excerpt, there are many sounds, such as bursting, throbbing, soft-sighing, snapping, and trickle. These all appeal to the sense of hearing.

3) B) His muscles had wasted away to knotty strings, and the flesh pads had disappeared, so that each rib and every bone in his frame were outlined cleanly through the loose hide...

This is the best answer. Thin is another word for gaunt. The reasons this excerpt is the answer is the same as for number one.

4) A) how furious and upset Thornton is

We can see Thornton's anger when it says "suddenly...John Thornton sprang upon the man". In this line he is being described as verbally attacking the man with the club. He does so because he is furious. His feelings about the situation show when his voice is described as "choking". This choice of words shows that Thornton cares about his son and is upset when he speaks.
