A point mutation showing a change in the DNA sequence but producing the same protein is called the silent mutation.

Mutation is any change in the genetic composition of the organism caused by mutagens. A point mutation is a type of mutation involving the change in a single nucleotide base either by insertion or deletion in a DNA. At the level of protein synthesis, it can be classified into silent mutation, missense mutation and nonsense mutation.

Silent mutations are considered as the neutral mutations as they result in a new codon (a triplet nucleotide sequence on RNA) which codes for the same amino acid and thus not altering the protein. Because of this, they do not exhibit any change in the phenotype of the organism. Missense mutations involve base substitutions which code for a different amino acid and nonsense mutations have substitutions which terminate protein synthesis prematurely thus affecting the protein being synthesized.

Thus, silent mutation is a type of point mutation producing the same amino acid.

How do mutations lead to variation?
lyudmila [28]
A mutation is a change in a genetic sequence. Mutations include changes as small as the substitution of a single DNA building block, or nucleotide base, with another nucleotide base. ... Mutations can introduce new alleles into a population of organisms and increase the population's genetic variation.

Explain the process of eutrophication.
babunello [35]
Eutrophication is the process by which a body of water is enriched with excess nutrients as a result of frequent runoffs from land; this result in excessive growth of some plants on the surface of the water.
When fertilizers are washed away from the land surfaces into the rivers as a result of water erosion, the fertilizers usually add nutrients to the water and bring about the growth of plants such as algae on the surface of the water. The plants that are growing on the surface of the water affect the organisms living in the water negatively because the plants will reduce the amount of light that get to the surface of the water.
