Answer:

therefore the left over board is 0.216a^{2} where 'a' is length of a side of the black poster board.

Step-by-step explanation:

i) Sasha cuts 4 identical circles from a square piece of black poster.

ii) let each side of the square piece be a.

iii) let us divide the square piece into four equal square parts from which the four identical circles will be cut

iv) therefore the side of each smaller square will be \frac{a}{2}.

v) therefore the diameter of each identical circle will be \frac{a}{2}

vi) therefore the radius if each of the four identical circles will be \frac{1}{2} \times \frac{a}{2}  = \frac{a}{4}

vii) the area of each of the four identical circles will be = \pi \times (\frac{a}{4} )^{2} = 3.14 \times (\frac{a}{4}) ^{2} = \frac{3.14a^{2}}{16}  = 0.196a^{2}

vii) the area of each of the four smaller squares = \frac{a}{2} \times \frac{a}{2} = \frac{a^{2} }{4}  = 0.25a^{2}

viii) therefore the area left over from each of the four smaller squares

= 0.25a^{2} - 0.196a^{2} = 0.054a^{2}

ix) therefore the left over board is given by 4 \times 0.054a^{2} = 0.216a^{2} where a is length of a side of the black poster board.

Explanation + answers

Because there are lengths going from 0 to 1, the lines must mean either decimals or fractions (we'll use fractions for this.)

1. There are twelve lines from 0 and 1, which we can use as the denominator for our fraction. This means the length of each line is 1/12.

2. In order to find where K's point is at, we simply need to count until we get to it. After counting, I see that K is on point 8/12, which we can simplify to get a smaller number. If we simplify once, we get 4/6, which we can again simplify to get 2/3. This gives us the answer K is on point 8/12 or 2/3.
