In Chapter 53, Pip is attacked by Orlick at the marshes. Orlick throws a noose over Pip's head and ties him down. Afterwards, he proceeds to detail why it is that he hates Pip so deeply. Therefore, Pip is able to learn a great deal about Orlick in this scene.

Pip learns that Orlick blames him for getting between him and the woman he loved. He also believes Pip to be responsible for Mrs. Joe's death (as Orlick killed her to get back at him). Finally, Orlick reveals that he is connected to Compeyson and that he has solved the mystery of Magwitch.

Read the excerpt from David Crockett: His Life and Adventures by John S. C. Abbott.
jenyasd209 [6]

Answer:

The setting in this excerpt reveals:

C. a lack of sophistication.

Explanation:

The excerpt offers details of how rudimentary the table, dishes and cutlery were. There is no sophistication; everything about them is rustic - the materials as well as the way they are made. There is wood, horn, pewter.  There is a table carved with a broad-axe. There are hunting-knives instead of table knives. If something broke easily - and the author says crockery did -, it was discarded. Durability and usefulness were priorities.
