Answer: Precipitates form only in (b) (c) and (d) and these are Al(OH)_3 , CaSO_4 and NiS respectively.

Explanation: (a) The reaction will be:

FeSO_4(aq)+2KCl(aq)\rightarrow FeCl_2(aq)+K_2SO_4(aq)

The reaction will not take place as both the products are soluble and so no precipitate will form.

(b) The reaction will be:

2Al(NO_3)_3(aq)+3Ba(OH)_2(aq)\rightarrow 3Ba(NO_3)_2(aq)+2Al(OH)_3(s)

This reaction will take place as aluminum hydroxide is insoluble. So, the precipitate formed in this reaction is Al(OH)_3 .

(c) The reaction will be:

CaCl_2(aq)+Na_2SO_4(aq)\rightarrow 2NaCl(aq)+CaSO_4(s)

This reaction will take place as a precipitate of calcium sulfate(slightly soluble) will form.

(d) The reaction will be:

K_2S(aq)+Ni(NO_3)_2(aq)\rightarrow 2KNO_3(aq)+NiS(s)

This reaction will take place as NiS is insoluble. So, the precipitate formed in this reaction is NiS.

complete question:

When the following solutions are mixed together, what precipitate (if any) will form?

a. FeSO4 (aq) + KCl (aq)

b. Al(NO3)3 (aq) + Ba(OH)2 (aq)

c. CaCl2 (aq) + Na2SO4 (aq)

d. K2S (aq) + Ni(NO3)2 (aq)

Answer:

a. Using solubility rule this reaction will not precipitate because both potential precipitates are soluble.

b. The reaction will precipitate Al(OH)3

c. The precipitate is CaSO4

d. The precipitate is NiS

Explanation:

a. FeSO4 (aq) + KCl (aq)

Using solubility rule this reaction will not precipitate because both potential precipitates are soluble.

FeSO4 (aq) + 2KCl (aq) → FeCl(aq) + K2SO4(aq)

b. Al(NO3)3 (aq) + Ba(OH)2 (aq)

The potential precipitate are Al(OH)3 and Ba(NO3)2

2 Al(NO3)3(aq) + 3 Ba(OH)2(aq) → 2 Al(OH)3 + 3 Ba(NO3)2

Al(OH)3 is insoluble while Ba(NO3)2 is soluble . The reaction will precipitate Al(OH)3

c. CaCl2 (aq) + Na2SO4 (aq)

The potential precipitate are CaSO4 and NaCl.

CaSO4 is insoluble while NaCl is soluble . The precipitate is CaSO4

Na2SO4 + CaCl2 → CaSO4 + 2NaCl

d. K2S (aq) + Ni(NO3)2 (aq)

The potential precipitate are KNO3 and NiS.

KNO3 is soluble while NiS is insoluble . The precipitate is NiS

K2S(aq) + Ni(NO3)2(aq) → 2 KNO3(aq) + NiS(s)

Explain how lithium atom is positive charge
yulyashka [42]
Lithium is an element that has an electronic configuration of 2,1. So when forming bonds, it tries to release one of its electrons in the last shell to reach the octet state. Normally when atoms release electrons they get positive charge since the number of protons which bear positive charge, is higher than number of electrons which bear negative charge. So when reaching its octet state, lithium gains positive charge!

Hope this helps! Tbh am not good at explaining. If u have any doubts, ask me!

What volume of 0.500 M HNO3(aq) must completely react to neutralize 100.0 milliliters of 0.100 M KOH(aq)?
asambeis [7]
KOH+ HNO3--> KNO3+ H2O
From this balanced equation, we know that 1 mol HNO3= 1 mol KOH (keep in mind this because it will be used later).

We also know that 0.100 M KOH aqueous solution (soln)= 0.100 mol KOH/ 1 L of KOH soln (this one is based on the definition of molarity).

First, we should find the mole of KOH:
100.0 mL KOH soln* (1 L KOH soln/ 1,000 mL KOH soln)* (0.100 mol KOH/ 1L KOH soln)= 1.00*10^(-2) mol KOH.

Now, let's find the volume of HNO3 soln:
1.00*10^(-2) mol KOH* (1 mol HNO3/ 1 mol KOH)* (1 L HNO3 soln/ 0.500 mol HNO3)* (1,000 mL HNO3 soln/ 1 L HNO3 soln)= 20.0 mL HNO3 soln.

The final answer is (2) 20.0 mL.

Also, this problem can also be done by using dimensional analysis.

Hope this would help~
