Haloalkanes are a group of organic molecules that are derived from alkanes.
They have a general formula of R-X, R standing for an alkane group and X being one of the halo elements ( Iodine, Bromide, and Chlorine).
As you can see in the picture below, all the molecules that are consisted of an alkane sequence and one of the halo elements (or a general mark for a halo element- X) are haloalkanes.
