It would be difficult to represent the information in the flowchart instead of a timeline because flow can be hard to determined. It is easier to read a timeline line for left to right and to understand that it goes from the beginning  to the end. A flow chart has factors in which you have to read it from top to bottom and the arrows go different ways and reading just get difficult.
