What Schulz is referring to is the effect that the displacement of the French King during the Revolutionary Wars was going to have on Germany's society. Schulz then writes about how he and several other students started to walk through the city, talking to each other and debating concepts and ideas that they now believed needed to occur in Germany as well. The author states that he believes that what is most likely to happen after France became a Republic, is that Germany will start its own revolution towards the same goal.
