Because the number of 6th graders is half the number of 7th graders, and 8th grade equals 7th grade, that you have to use an even number less than 20, but more than ten.This leaves the numbers 14 and 18. Now we use trial and error. Half of 14 is 7. 14+14=28
28+7=35
35≠45

Half of 18 is 9.
18+18=36
36+9=45
45=45
