Mountain ranges are created at convergent or destructive boundaries between tectonic plates. Convergent margins are formed when two tectonic plates move towards each other. When this happens the crust is folded and faulted upwards into impressive mountain ranges called fold mountains. Notable fold mountain ranges include the Andes, Alps and Himalayas. These mountains are formed at continent to continent collision and ocean to continent convergence.
