To find BC:

• we can see that there is a right angle triangle

• to make it easier use the concept

SOH: Sine° = Opposite/ Hypo

CAH: Cos° = Adjacent/ Hypo

TOA: Tan° = Oppo / Adjacent

(look the CAPITAL letter there, it'll helps us later)

So, we are given: 16 (hypo)

we want to find BC : Opposite

WE HAVE (H) and (O) thefore we use SOH

sine 5° = BC/ 16

(then move 16)

sin 5° x 16 = BC

Find the area, in square feet, of a triangle whose base is 42⁄3 feet and whose altitude is 84⁄7 feet. A. 135⁄21 B. 20 C. 40 D. 2
CaHeK987 [17]

Answer:

Option B. 20\ ft^{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The area of a triangle is equal to

A=\frac{1}{2}bh

we have

b=4\frac{2}{3}\ ft

h=8\frac{4}{7}\ ft

Convert mixed numbers to an improper fractions

b=4\frac{2}{3}\ ft=\frac{4*3+2}{3}=\frac{14}{3}\ ft

h=8\frac{4}{7}\ ft=\frac{8*7+4}{7}=\frac{60}{7}\ ft

substitute the values

A=\frac{1}{2}(\frac{14}{3})(\frac{60}{7})\\ \\A=\frac{14*60}{2*3*7}\\ \\A=\frac{840}{42} \\ \\A=20\ ft^{2}

How do you leave an answer in terms of pi?
Archy [21]

In terms of pi means to include pi in your answer. In other words, don't use 3.14 or 22/7 for pi.

If tan theta = 12/5 and cos theta < 0, what is sin theta ?
Talja [164]
1 + tan ² Ф=sec²Ф
1+(12/5)²=sec²Ф
169/25=sec² Ф
sec Ф=⁺₋√(169/25)=⁺₋13/5

sec Ф=1/cos Ф ⇒cosФ=1/sec Ф
 cos Ф>0   ⇔  sec Ф>0  ⇔  sec Ф=+ 13/5

cos Ф=1/secФ
cos Ф=1 / 13/5=5/13

we can calculate the sin Ф, with this method.
sin²Ф + cos²Ф=1  ⇒ sin Ф=⁺₋√(1-cos² Ф)
sin Ф=⁺₋√[1-(5/13)²]=⁺₋12/13
like cos Ф>0 and tan Ф>0   ⇒ sin Ф>0 ⇒sin Ф=12/13

answer: d.12/13

other method
tan Ф=sin Ф / cos Ф
12/5=sin Ф / 5/13
sin Ф=(12/5)*(5/13)=12/13

answer: d.12/13

it confuses me when i have to fill in the in between i just dont quite understand how to work it out please explain it clearly
prisoha [69]

<em>Make the unknown numerator be x and unkown denominotor be y</em>

<em>We have :  7 - </em>\frac{x}{y} = 6\frac{4}{5}

            =>       \frac{x}{y} = 7 - 6\frac{4}{5}

                       \frac{x}{y} = \frac{1}{5}

<em>So we need to fill in the box :</em> \frac{1}{5}
