Angles of Elevation and Depression are used in measuring heights and distances in trigonometric applications using right triangles. These angles are made when we look up or down to view objects. Devices are available to measure angles of elevation and depression. These measured angles can be used in measuring heights and distance which are either tedious or impractical to measure, by modelling the situation into right triangles

The relationship between the angle of elevation and the angle of depression is called alternate interior angles theorem. As such, these angles are congruent and equal. Since parallel lines form between two horizontal lines, these two angles are formed on either side of a transversal which cuts through the parallel lines. The angle of depression is formed downward from a horizontal line. The angle of elevation is formed upward from a horizontal line. See attached picture.

<h3>Further Explanation </h3>

Angles of elevation and depression are most often used in applications of trigonometric functions. These functions include Sine, Cosine, and Tangent. Using the ratios for each function and a calculator, unknown distances can be found in a scenario. An example of an application using the angle of elevation or the angle of depression can be found here <u>brainly.com/question/12860445</u>.

To solve examples of an application using the angle of elevation or the angle of depression, use the following steps:

  1. Draw a Scenario: Using the details given, draw a picture and label it with the values.
  2. Choose the best function : Trigonometry has three main functions: sine, cosine, and tangent. Each function describes a ratio between the opposite, adjacent and hypotenuse sides of a triangle using on a reference angle. Use the angle of elevation or the angle of depression as the reference angle to choose the best function.
  3. Calculate and round your answer using your calculator.

See an example of each step here: <u>brainly.com/question/12860445</u>.
