"An officer of the Federal force, who in a spirit of adventure or in quest of knowledge had left the hidden bivouac in the valle

y, and with aimless feet had made his way to the lower edge of a small open space near the foot of the cliff, was considering what he had to gain by pushing his exploration further."
The description of the officer's spirit of adventure foreshadows

A.) that he will lie to the union commander.

B.) that he will seriously injure himself upon falling.

C.) that he will be the only observer of the horseman's fall.

D.) that he will question Carter's part in the strange incident.

Answer: I would contend that the right answer is the C) that he will be the only observer of the horseman's fall.

Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, it can be added that by making his way "with aimless feet" and "pushing his exploration further," the officer had the potential chance of witnessing something unexpected and adventurous. And this he did, when he saw the horseman in the sky. He did hurt himself in his shin when he saw the man on horseback riding through the air, but not seriously, and this description of his spirit of adventure does not necessarily suggest that he will lie to the commander.

In thinking about the plan Leiningen created for his plantation, what does the water-filled ditch show about him?
patriot [66]

Answer:

He shows that Leiningen is a defensive minded strategist willing to do all in his power to protect his plantation from the invading ants.

Explanation:

'Leiningen And The Ants' is the story of a coffee plantation owner called Leiningen who upon hearing that an army of invading ants was coming to invade and destroy his coffee plantation, refused to chicken out and run, but rather chose to employ several defence mechanisms to defend his investment in the plantation.

The water filled ditch (also called Moats) around the plantation was the first  line of defense employed by Leiningen to ward off the ants.

The ditch which was built 12 feet across the plantation was filled with water to act as a barrier to the ants reaching the plantation.

The ants, however, used their bodies to construct a bridge over the ditch on which they were able to invade the plantation
