While traveling along a highway a driver slows from 24 m/s to 15 m/s in 12 seconds. What is the automobile’s acceleration?
Nimfa-mama [501]

Average Acceleration = (change in speed) / (time for the change)

Change in speed = (ending speed) - (starting speed)

                             =   15 m/s - 24 m/s  =  -9 m/s

Acceleration =  (-9 m/s) / (12 sec) =  - 0.75 m/s² .

A rock at the top of a 30 meter cliff has a mass of 25 kg. Calculate the rock’s gravitational potential energy when dropped off
nalin [4]

Potential energy =

                     (mass) x (gravity) x (height above the reference level) .

Relative to the bottom of the cliff, the potential energy
at the top of the cliff is

                         (25kg) x (9.8 m/s²) x (30 meters)

                     =  (25 x 9.8 x 30)  kg-m²/s²

                     =        7,350 joules .

Kinetic energy = (1/2) x (mass) x (speed²)

The rock's kinetic energy at the bottom is
the same as its potential energy at the top.

                                        7,350 joules = (1/2) x (25 kg) x (speed²)

Divide each side
by 12.5kg :                7,350 joules/12.5 kg  =  speed²

                                 7,350 kg-m²/s² / 12.5kg  =  speed²

                                 (7,350 / 12.5)  m²/s²  =  speed²

                                      588 m²/s²  =  speed²
Take the square root
of each side:
                                   Speed = √(588 m²/s²)

                                             =  24.248... m/s       (rounded)

An iron nail is made up of particles. What is true about the particles? Why does ice float on water?
Archy [21]

Answer: i know that ice is denser than water because of the reason why ice is expanding:air. ice has tiny air packets inside that make it bigger than the original state(the state which a substance is at at room temperature.

Explanation:

Iron is an element that has been known in its pure form for at least 5,000 years. The name "iron" comes from the...

The element symbol for iron is Fe, which comes from the Latin word for iron, "ferrum."

Iron is one of the most plentiful elements. It comprises about 5.6 percent of the Earth's crust and almost all of its core

Iron is a transition metal.

Animals and plants require iron. Plants use iron in chlorophyll, the pigment used in photosynthesis. Humans use iron in hemoglobin molecules in blood to allow for the transport of oxygen to tissues throughout the body.

Why do scientists need a standard system of measurement?
ladessa [460]
Scientists need a standard system of measurement to allow for consistency with measurement data (A). Scientists would not be able to understand what other scientists are saying if everyone uses their own system of measurement. Scientists need to take measurements, interpret them and communicate the results to other scientists. That is why a standardized system of taking measurements has been developed. The International System of Units or the Metric system is the measurement system of choice for scientists all over the world today.
