Okay I think there has been a transcription issue here because it appears to me there are two answers. However I can spot where some brackets might be missing, bear with me on that.

A direct variation, a phrase I haven't heard before, sounds a lot like a direct proportion, something I am familiar with. A direct proportion satisfies two criteria:

The gradient of the function is constant s the independent variable (x) varies

The graph passes through the origin. That is to say when x = 0, y = 0.

Looking at these graphs, two can immediately be ruled out. Clearly A and D pass through the origin, and the gradient is constant because they are linear functions, so they are direct variations.

This leaves B and C. The graph of 1/x does not have a constant gradient, so any stretch of this graph (to y = k/x for some constant k) will similarly not be direct variation. Indeed there is a special name for this function, inverse proportion/variation. It appears both B and C are inverse proportion, however if I interpret B as y = (2/5)x instead, it is actually linear.

This leaves C as the odd one out.

I hope this helps you :)

“angle A = 32, AC = 9, BC = x. Find x to two decimal places, don’t forget to round properly based on the third decimal place.” P
Liono4ka [1.6K]

<u>Given</u>:

Given that ABC is a right triangle.

The measure of ∠A is 32°.

The length of AC is 9 units.

The length of BC is x units.

We need to determine the value of x.

<u>Value of x:</u>

The value of x can be determined using the trigonometric ratio.

Thus, we have;

sin \ \theta=\frac{opp}{hyp}

where θ = A, the side opposite to A is BC and hypotenuse is AC.

Thus, we have;

sin \ A=\frac{BC}{AC}

Substituting BC = x and AC = 9, we get;

sin \ 32=\frac{x}{9}

Multiplying both sides by 9, we have;

sin \ 32 \times 9=x

         4.77=x

Thus, the value of x is 4.77 units.

vazorg [7]

By using the given dimensions and volume of water, we will see that the height of the tank is 36.6cm

<h3>How to find the height of the tank?</h3>

We know that 27,238 cm³ is the volume of water on the tank, and this is equal to 2/3 of the volume of the tank.

So we can write:

27,238 cm³ = (2/3)*V

Then the volume of the tank is:

V = (3/2)*27,238 cm³ = 40,992 cm³

The base of the tank measures 40cm by 28cm, then:

B = 40cm*28cm = 1,120 cm²

Then the height H is such that:

H*1,120 cm² = 40,992 cm³

Solving for H:

H = (40,992 cm³)/(1,120 cm²) = 36.6cm

The height of the tank is 36.6 centimeters.
