Working together, the job takes x hours to do.

If a lawn can be mowed with a push mower is 2 hours, then in 1 hour, you do 1/2 of the job.

If the same lawn can be mowed with a riding mower in 1 hour, then in 1 hour you do 1 job.

If the same lawn can be mowed by the two mowers together in x hours, then in 1 hour you get 1/x done.

1/2 + 1 = 1/x

3/2 = 1/x

x = 2/3

They take 2/3 of an hour. 2/3 * 60 min = 40 minutes.

Explain, step by step , how you solve the system of equations: y=3x - 3,y= x-3. Then provide the solution to the system.
Alex_Xolod [135]

Answer:

(0, -3)

Step-by-step explanation:

y = 3x - 3

y = x - 3

In the solution to the system of equations, y is the same number for both of those functions. So 3x - 3 = x - 3.

Then solve for x:

3x - 3 = x - 3

Add 3 to both sides

3x = x

Subtract x from both sides

2x = 0

Divide both sides by 2

x = 0

Now that you have x, substitute it in one of the equations:

y = 3x - 3

y = 3(0) - 3

y = -3

x is 0 and y is -3, so the solution to the equation is (0, -3)

What is the period of the sinusoid given by y=-3cos(2pi/5x)? Is it 2/5? Please explain.
alex41 [277]
Y = a sin b x
amplitude = a
period = 2π /b.

y = 6 sin x
a = 6
b = 1

a, the amplitude, represents the highest point a graph reaches;
a = 6

The period represents the length of a cycle-

the period = 2π /b = 2π/1 = 2π

How to convert cubic inches to cubic yards
BartSMP [9]
Ok

it might be easier to conver from yards to inches then flip it

1cubic yard=1yard times 1yard times 1yard
1yard=36 inches
1 cubic yard=36 inches times 36 inches times 36 inches
1 cubic yard=46656 cubic inches
divide both sides by 46656
1 cubic inch=1/46656 cubic yards
