Answer:

The Sites of Encounter in the Medieval World unit introduces students to the connections between regions and peoples in Afro-Eurasia (the “world”) between 1000 and 1500 (the “medieval” period.) Following recent world historical scholarship about connections between cultures in and around the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, and South China Sea, the lessons immerse students in sites of encounter – Sicily, Quanzhou, Cairo, Mali, Majorca, and Calicut - where merchants, travelers, and scholars exchanged products, technologies, and ideas. These exchanges also sparked new ideas and cultural productions, which then diffused outward from the site of encounter. Without denying that cultural encounters were often marked by conflict, our approach focuses on the shared norms and practices that made exchanges possible. To make these abstract ideas more understandable to students, the lessons begin with the study of concrete objects – maps, ships, astrolabes, silks, and spices – exchanged or produced at the sites of encounter. In the first lesson, Norman Sicily, a major site of exchange between the Muslim and Christian worlds, students will examine the world map al-Idrisi and his team of Muslim, Jewish and Christian mapmakers drew for Christian king Roger II. For Quanzhou, students will analyze excerpts from the travel narratives of Marco Polo and Ibn Battuta and the technology of the sea-faring junk; for Cairo and Calicut, they will examine descriptions of the cities written by travelers from different cultures, along with local accounts, art and architecture. Between the major lessons, there are mini-lessons on the Mongol Empire, the voyages of Zheng He, and the Black Death.

How was Blanche K. Bruce’s senator ship different from that of Hiram Revels?
mario62 [17]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Blanche K. Bruce’s senatorship was different from that of Hiram Revels in that although Hiram Revels was the first African American in the United States Senate, he did not serve the entire six years term that is allowed for senators. The first African American Senator that indeed served his whole six years term was Blanche K. Bruce.

Hiram Revels entered the Senate after white Senator Albert G. Brown resigned in 1861. When Revels term ended he went to lead what today is Alcorn State University. In the case of Blanche K. Bruce, his term started in 1875 and ended in 1881. After his period he went to work for the US Treasury.

One reason the colonists had difficulty coming together to revolt against Britain is because they:
AnnyKZ [126]
D. Lacked a unified army. Each colony had a militia which was made up of farmers and untrained men. The colonies had very few common factors pulling them together as a unit. To fight against the British meant fighting without the army that they once belonged or fighting with men that were untrained. Men were asked to join colonial militias which required them to leave their fields and work to fight for a dangerous cause against the British.

describe genocide and write your thoughts about the Turkish conference held in relation to the Armenian genocide.
grin007 [14]

The Turkish–Armenian war (Armenian: Թուրք-հայկական պատերազմ) known in Turkey as the Eastern Operation[13] or Eastern Front (Turkish: Doğu Cephesi) of the Turkish War of Independence, refers to a conflict in the autumn of 1920 between the First Republic of Armenia and the Turkish nationalists, following the signing of the Treaty of Sèvres. After an initial Armenian occupation of what is now eastern Turkey, the army of the Turkish National Movement under Kâzım Karabekir reversed the Armenian gains and further invaded and defeated Armenia, also recapturing territory which the Ottoman Empire had lost to the Russian Empire in 1855 and 1878.[1]

The Turkish military victory was followed by Soviet Union's occupation and Sovietization of Armenia. The Treaty of Moscow (March 1921) between Soviet Russia and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the related Treaty of Kars (October 1921) confirmed the territorial gains made by Karabekir and established the modern Turkish–Armenian border.

Armenia had territorial disputes with the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans had tried to move the Armenians during the Armenian Genocide and occupied the South Caucasus during Summer 1918. Armenia resisted until the Allied forces won WWI. The Ottomans maintained their troops along their territorial gains until Spring 1919.
