Concerns about the adoption of Western culture among youth and adolescents.

Response to the article "Western influence on youth today"

Dear Editor,

In reading the article and evaluating the influence of Western culture in our society, especially among young people and adolescents, I could not help noticing how it can be harmful to our society.

With the intense adoption of factors of Western culture by our youth, I am concerned that our own culture and customs are abandoned and forgotten over time. With that in mind, I believe that the best way is to make the concepts of our culture attractive to young people in our society, mainly through articles and artistic presentations, which not only show the value of our culture, but show young people how important it is respect and admire cultures from other regions without abandoning ours.

   In Walden, Thoureau presents a lesson of wisdom about the best way to life as an individual and as a social being.

   What would look like excentricity to most people, means to him a reflection about the capitalism and the advantages and disadvantages of urbanization and industrialization.

   The trancendentalism defended the vality of the intuition, and individualism. So it fits with the thoughts of Thoureau about the industrialization and reflections about life, as it is possible to confirm in Walden when a question is frequently asked about what is really important to the basic needs for the modern man to have a good life. He defends that it is possible to have a good life with the minimum of material resources to provide whatever the spirit needs, such as reading, reflections about life and nature watching. On the other hand, he afirms that it is possible to have a good life without an  excess of clothes, food or fancy houses.

In his letter from Birmingham jail, Martin Luther King tried to persuade the audience that his non violence belief is a good move to act against racism and oppression.

1. King directly addresses the audience which shows the clarity in his views and actions. He out across his points making several relative points and people understood them clearly and his letter got a lot of attention.

2. King used many allusions to prove his point. An allusion is used by an author referring something in his work to some historic or literary, or cultural details from outside the work. He took instances from Bible, stating what Jesus had preached. He also referred to Mahatma Gandhi who also believed in non violence and India got Independence. All these allusions are very effective as they convince the audience in proving his point as right.

3. King used his words to inspire people the most. It inspired the African-Americans to fight against the whites for their freedom. He said "We will reach the goal of freedom in Birmingham and all over the nation, because the goal of America is freedom". He also gives them hope that things are on their side and they will achieve their goals.
