A column is packed with 0.5 g of a strongly acidic ion exchange resin in H+ form. A 1.0 M NaCl solution is passed through the co

lumn until the eluant coming out becomes neutral. The collected eluant is completely neutralized by 17 ml. of 0.5 M NaOH. The ion exchange capacity of the resin is:
(a) 1.00 meq/g(b) 1.25 meq/g

(c) 1.50 meq/g(d) 1.75 meq/g

Answer:

The correct answer is 17 meq/g

Explanation:

Ion exchange capacity (IEC) express the total of active sites of a resin in which ions are attached because the greater molecular weight.

The exchange Reaction can be represented as

R-HR-H^{+} +  Na^{+} + Cl^{-} -> R-Na^{+} + HCl_{aq}

The IEC value (in meq/g) is determinated by using the next equation:

IEC=[(mL of NaOH)*(M of NaOH)]/mass of resin

IEC [(17 mL)*(0.5 M)/0.5]= 17 meq/g

Calculate the value of q (kj) in this exothermic reaction when 5.40 g of hydrogen peroxide decomposes at constant pressure?
Gelneren [198K]
Hydrogen peroxide decomposes to yield water and oxygen gas
That is; H2O2 (l) = H2O (l) + O2(g)
The standard heat of formation; H2O2 (l) = -187.6 kJ/mol; H2O(l) = -285.8 kJ/mol
1 mole of hydrogen peroxide contains 34 g
Thus, 5.4 g contains 5.4/34 = 0.1588 moles
The moles of water produced will also be equivalent to 0.1588 moles
Heat = heat of formation of product - reactant
Therefore; Heat = (0.1588 moles × -285,8 )- (0.1588× -187.6)
                           =  -15.594 kJ

2 AgNO3(aq) + CaCl2(aq) -----> 2 AgCl(s) + Ca(NO3)2(aq)
yan [13]

5.732 grams of AgCl is formed when 0.200 L of 0.200 M AGNO3 reacts with an excess of CaCl2.

Explanation:

The balanced equation:

2 AgNO3(aq) + CaCl2(aq) -----> 2 AgCl(s) + Ca(NO3)2(aq)

data given:

volume of AgNO3 = 0.2 L

molarity of AgNO3 = 0.200 M

atomic weight of AgCl= 143.32 gram/mole

from the formula, number of moles can be calculated

Molarity = \frac{number of moles}{volume in litres}

number of moles of AgNO3 = 0.04

From the reaction:

2 moles of AgNO3 reacts to form 2 moles of AgCl

0.04 moles of AgNO3 reacts to form x mole of AgCl

\frac{2}{2} = \frac{x}{0.04}

= 0.04 moles of AgCl is formed

mass of AgCl formed is calculated by multiplying number of moles with atomic mass of AgCl

mass of AgCl = 0.04 x 143.32

                       = 5.732 grams of AgCl is formed.
