Algebra 1 is a basic algebra course usually taken in freshman year (9th grade). Common Core guidelines dominate the curriculum. It is faster paced than middle school math courses. Algebra 2 is a more advanced algebra course usually taken in junior year (11th grade). Algebra 2 is paced even faster and builds on what you learn in A1 and geometry. Both deal with variables and the manipulation of numbers.
