Altitude of mountain climber is 4572 and altitude of submarine commander is -609. What is the the difference in their altitude

To have a minus altitude or negative altitude you need to go below 0 ( which is represented by the sea level).

To get the difference between the mountain climber and submarine commander you add both altitudes as positive numbers: 4572 + 609 = 5181 m difference!

Another ex.

If a scuba diver is under the water, say 10 m hhe has a altitude of -10m

And a submarine is under at 100m that is a altitude of -100m.

The difference between the two is 100-10=90 m, not -90m. The difference is always a positive number.

If you need part A, draw a person and label them 6 feet tall and a shadow coming off of him that is five feet long and draw a basketball hoop that and label it X feet tall and draw a shadow coming from it that is 8 feet long. To solve, you use proportions 6/5=X/8 solving this you get X=9.6 feet which is the height of the rim. Therefore, the rim does not meet regulation height, since the required height (10 feet) is greater than the actual height (9.6 feet).

Solve the system of equations. y=23x–19 x2–y= – 6x–23 Write the coordinates as integers, simplified proper or improper fractions
forsale [732]

Answer:

(3, 50) and (14,303)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the system of equations;

y=23x–19 ....1

x²–y= – 6x–23 ...2

Substitute 1 into 2;

x²–(23x-19)= – 6x–23

x²–23x+19= – 6x–23 .

x²-23x + 6x + 19 + 23  = 0

x² - 17x + 42 = 0

Factorize;

x² - 14x - 3x + 42 = 0

x(x-14)-3(x-14) = 0

(x-3)(x-14) = 0

x = 3 and 14

If x = 3

y = 23(3) - 19

y = 69-19

y = 50

If x = 14

y = 23(14) - 19

y = 322-19

y = 303

Hence the coordinate solutions are (3, 50) and (14,303)

I need help with these two questions
Mandarinka [93]

Answer:

(-2,-2)

Step-by-step explanation:

for question number 15...cordinated grid shows each equation...first equation is represented by straight line going upwards through +4 in y axis...(y=3x+4)...

point is....every point in this two lines represent a possible x and y value for each equation...and there is a point where these lines meet each other....in that point...x and y values are possible values for both equations.so answer is (-2,-2)...this cordination satisfy each pairs of equation...you can try using -2 for x in both equations and get -2 as the answer for y...that proves the point..try it for 16 quiz.good luck
