If a4 = 625, what does (a) equal?

I'm assuming you meant to write a^4 = 625.

If that is the case, then note how 625 = 25^2, and how a^4 is the same as (a^2)^2

So we go from this

a^4 = 625

to this

(a^2)^2 = 25^2

Apply the square root to both sides and you'll end up with: a^2 = 25

From here, apply the square root again to end up with the final answer: a = 5 or a = -5

As a check:

a^4 = (-5)^4 = (-5)*(-5)*(-5)*(-5) = 25*25 = 625

a^4 = (5)^4 = (5)*(5)*(5)*(5) = 25*25 = 625

Both values of 'a' work out

4. Six workers are hired to weed a field by
user100 [1]

Answer:

594 square feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of a rectangle is length times width. We can find the area of each workers plot by multiplying 9 and 11 to get 99 sq feet. There is six workers, and therefore six plots of land, so we'd take our 99 sq feet and count that six times to get 594 square feet.

is the relationship between the side length of a square and the area of the square an example of a function?
vekshin1
Yes. to find the area of a square when you know one side "s", you simply square that side since the area is equal to the base times the height, and the base and height will always be equal in a square since the sides are equal:

A = s^2

Represented in a function form:

f(s) = s^2

This means whatever you plug in for s, you will square it to get the area.
