It is released when the glucose levels are increased in the bloodstream. The pancreas detects the rise in the blood glucose levels and hence, secretes insulin. The insulin signals the liver to take up the glucose and convert and store it as glycogen.

After several generations, all bacteria's DNA was labelled with light 14N. This experiment evidenced that the self-replication of DNA is semi-conservative process.
