A teacher modeled part of a DNA molecule using two of these coiled springs. Which part of the DNA was the teacher most likely mo
Vinil7 [7]

Answer: The part of DNA that the teacher was modelling would be the backbone of DNA.

Explanation:

The DNA is made of double helical structure which is twisted. In the structure of DNA two strands are coiled among each other.

The DNA consists of the nitrogenous bases, phosphate groups and deoxy-ribose sugar.

The backbone of DNA is made up of sugar( alternating )and phosphate group. The nitrogenous bases such as adenine, cytosine ,guanine and thymine are joined to the deoxy-ribose sugar.

This backbone part was part that the teacher was making as a model by using two coiled springs.

Problem 1

A. This is a true statement because sickle cell anemia is genetic. So we can cross it off the list.

B. This is true. Those with sickle cell anemia have red blood cells that are not suitable for the parasite to grow. This applies to carriers as well to a lesser extent.

C. This is true. This is similar to choice B above.

D. This is true. Sickle cell anemia is autosomal recessive, meaning that they must inherit both sickle cell genes from each parent to have 2 in total to have the disease.

E. This is false. This contradicts what choice A is saying, which is true.

Answer: Choice E

Problem 2

A. False. Antibiotics do not work on viruses. Viruses work differently than that of bacteria.

B. True. Antibiotics such as penicillin are very useful in killing bacteria. Though it wont get all bacteria (instead perhaps maybe something like 99.9% of all bacteria).

C. False. Antibiotics target the bacteria itself, and not the byproducts.

D. False. This is describing probiotics.

E. False. This is describing toxins.

Answer: Choice B

Problem 3

The answer choices seem really wordy, but they all say the same basic thing except for a few key words/phrases being interchanged. Particularly, pay attention to the stuff in bold.

Those who are best adapted to the environment will likely survive and pass on their genes, so those individuals will have higher relative frequency compared to individuals not suited for the environment. Eg: desert cactus with larger needles might represent 80% of the population.

So far, we see that the answer choices are between A and D simply because of the first keyword (in bold) is "increase".

We can rule out choice D because getting a mutated gene is due to chance.

Select which of the following is not an accurate portrayal of mutations.
Shtirlitz [24]
D. Mutations will always impact an individual on some level

Most of these seem accurate or at least close to being accurate on how mutations affect genes however, some mutations won’t always impact an individual because some mutations are so minor. But this is my best guess

his nutrient is cycled between living things and the soil. Plants absorb this nutrient from the soil and turn it into organic co
djverab [1.8K]

The nutrient is phosphorus

The phosphorus cycle

Phosphorus cycles between living components of the earth (biosphere) and the soil (geosphere).

The element's reservoir is mainly the sediments of the ocean and rocks. Phosphorus gets into the soil by weathering of rocks.

Plants are able to pick the element up from the soil and animals are able to get their phosphorus by consuming plants.

When plants and animal die, their body decomposes and the phosphorus in them enters the soil.

Thus, the cycle being referred to in the illustration is the phosphorus cycle.
